Stevie Wonder Steveland Morris Judkins Hardaway was born 56 years ago in Saginaw, Michigan. A doctors mistake leaves him blind as a newborn, but through the years of his childhood he develops an incredible sensitivity that helps him keep such a good pace in singing, song writing and instrument playing that he deservedly wins the pseudonym Stevie Wonder. At the age of eleven Stevie begins recording and gaining momentum as one of the most remarkable and influential performers and song-writers of his time. His collaboration with the Motown label brings him many benefits including critical acclaim for his innovative works. Under the label he releases the hit version of "Blowin' in the Wind and writes songs for other Motown artists such as The Spinners and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. After ending his contract with Motown Stevie releases the classics of the era the albums - Where I'm Coming From and Music of My Mind as independent productions. Over years Stevies consciousness grows and music becomes the main tribune of his attitude to the political and social issues of his time - Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974) and his magnum opus, Songs in the Key of Life. With Hotter Than July (1980) Stevie reaches platinum sales and the album becomes the main weapon of his campaign to establish Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday as a national holiday. He also creates an album for the Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants film, that is a real classic piece of art. According to critics the following years of Stevies career are not among the strongest in terms of creative might, but he keeps being busy all the time, giving birth to remarkable pop works such as his duet with Paul McCartney, "Ebony and Ivory", the soundtrack to the Gene Wilder comedy The Woman in Red, including Stevies hit of all times "I Just Called to Say I Love You.", that is placed 13th in the all-time list of best-selling singles in the UK and wins an Oscar for Best Song. In 1985 Stevie releases the much-awaited In Square Circle album that spawns platinum hits such as "Part Time Lover" - his last solo pop chart-topper. Stevies following releases are much more on the R&B side of music and score positions in the front line of R&B charts his 1987s album Characters (hit single Skeletons") and 1991s soundtrack to the Spike Lee film Jungle Fever, and 1995's Conversation Peace. Stevie Wonders pop fame is revived when rap star Coolio turns his "Pastime Paradise" into 1995s smash hit "Gangsta's Paradise, as well as when his hit duet with Babyface, "How Come, How Long," is popularized in 1996. The following ten years Stevie spends composing and incorporating sophisticated pop/R&B tunes into the repertoires of jazz artists, meanwhile strengthening his influence on the neo-soul movement that sees the daylight in the late '90s. Stevie returns to the spotlight in 2005 with the release of A Time 2Love, as classic an album as his memorable previous works. Stevies dedication to music is rewarded numerous times - in 1989 he is inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and over the years he becomes recipient of 22 Grammy awards. He also records a number of charity songs such as "We Are the World" by USA for Africa and "That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne Warwick & Friends.
